Glad its going to get seen across america on the big screen, but i dont care for the reason stated by the writer of the book..

And now we have the trailer for Whip It!, the directorial debut of Drew Barrymore and the first film to star Ellen Page since her breakout role in Juno. Note the T-shirt that Page's character wears in what seem to be at least three different scenes, in the final minute of the trailer below:

So, what does the T-shirt signify? Well, the movie is based on a book by Shauna Cross called Derby Girl, and here is what it says on pages 100-101:

In an effort to shake off the pink-suit residue and reclaim my personal identity, I wear my favorite thrift-store T-shirt to school the next day: a baseball tee featuring Stryper, circa 1984.
Who's Stryper, you ask? Only the most perfectly awful '80s, Christian, heavy-metal rock band ever. Not that I knew this when I found my beloved T-shirt. I simply swooned over the image of five (sic) guys trying to look tough with their big, permed hair, gobs of makeup, and skinny yellow-and-black-striped spandex pants. In short, a fashion disaster of such major proportions that I had to spend the four dollars on the shirt. It makes me so happy to wear it.

Seriously. One day when you're completely bored, depressed, or both, Google Stryper and have yourself a laugh-fest. Guaranteed. :biggun

They scenes will not be cut. The shirt is a pretty key element, and is in several scenes. And like the article you posted. It's starts with her character poking at Stryper, but later she meets someone who gives Oz props for being an awesome shredder.

Also, it's not too far-fetched to think of a 17 year old finding and old Stryper shirt thinking they looked goofy. Everyone in the 80's looked goofy. I don't think we need to get bent out of shape over that, besides, how many people may "Google Stryper" and end up HERE?

This could be some of the best promotion that Stryper ever gets. Even if it is supposed to be somewhat negative, it will still remind people about them. And if they google stryper, they might hear their music and decide they like it.

One day I see threads from management asking for help. The next day I see Stryper on the Hollywood map without even being prompted. I hope someone is arranging a luncheon or atleast a conference call 's with the powers that be with this film. Hello, anybody listening?

A list just off the top of my head that someone needs tobe on the phone with.

This film's people. (wheel already in motion, tag on and keep it going)

Jimmy Falon (wheel already in motion, tag on and keep it going)

Larry the cable guy (wheel already in motion, tag on and keep it going)

Stephen Baldwin (Hollywood presence, Christian actor)

Gov. Mike Huckabee (Good show, big audience on FNC, Christian, music lover that plays bass, has bands/artist on show all the time, PERFECT FIT FOR A STRYPER EPISODE)

Anybody notice who one of the co-producers is? Jimmy Fallon. Thats probably why the Stryper shirt made it in there.

Fly him to Tenn., show him some Southern Hospitality, catch my drift?

The Stryper shirt is actually a big part of the story as written in the book that it is based on. BUT, that may have been why they/he picked it too.

That might be a possibility, actually. On the message board for his late night show, there is a topic titled "What guests would you like to see appear on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon?".

I've seen a few of these people on his show, so they may be paying attention.

http://boards.nbc.com/nbc/index.php?showtopic=813164

If enough people request, it may catch their eyes :D

This is the board to request musical guests:

You can also follow Jimmy on Twitter but it looks like he's not taking any more band requests for the time being:
